Emirates today marks 25 years of successful operations in Peshawar, Pakistan’s sixth-largest city. Since the inaugural flight on July 14, 1998, Emirates has carried over 1.8 million passengers between Dubai and Peshawar and lifted more than 25,000 tonnes of cargo, supporting travel and trade through the export of commodities.

Airline’s silver Jubilee of transforming travel experiences, and promoting trade and cultural exchange

In 1998, the inaugural flight landed at Bacha Khan International Airport, becoming the second Pakistani city served by the airline and, since then, the airline has ensured seamless travel connectivity between Pakistan’s North Western city of Peshawar and Emirates’ network, including its hub city of Dubai.

Emirates currently offers five weekly flights to passengers from Peshawar operated with a Boeing 777-300ER wide-body aircraft, capable of carrying up to 428 passengers and 20 tonnes of cargo in the belly hold.

Jeddah has become the most popular destination for passengers traveling from and to Peshawar. Hajj and Umrah travel to Medina was also very frequent over the years while the UK (Manchester, London and Birmingham), Turkey, Germany and France were popular amongst leisure travelers and students pursuing higher education abroad. Business and corporate travelers frequented popular points in China, Japan, Malaysia and Thailand. Top Middle East destinations and points of origin include Dammam, Kuwait City, Baghdad, Tehran, Doha and Istanbul, while the US, Canada, South Africa and Egypt are also amongst the top destinations for travelers from Peshawar.

On the occasion of the airline’s 25th anniversary of operations in Peshawar, Mohammed Alhashmi, Emirates’ Vice President for Pakistan said “As one of the longest-serving international carriers in Peshawar, Emirates has continuously strived to provide exceptional services, unparalleled connectivity, and a seamless travel experience to its valued passengers. Over the past 25 years, Emirates has witnessed significant growth, firmly establishing itself as a trusted and preferred airline for both business and leisure travelers. We take great pride in being a catalyst for economic growth, tourism, and cultural exchange, and we are excited further to strengthen our relationship with the wonderful people of Peshawar. We would also like to thank all our partners and key stakeholders for their continued support which has made our successful operations possible.” Emirates Celebrates 25 Years of Uniting Peshawar

The total kilometers clocked by Emirates’ aircraft traveling in and out of Peshawar since operations began is 13.8 million kilometers – enough to travel the world roughly around 370 times. Over the same period Emirates operated close to 7,500 flights to and from the city.

With the commencement of the Hajj season and upcoming Eid Al Adha celebrations, Emirates is layering additional flights to vital regional destinations to meet significant travel demand during this particular period. Emirates to Ramp up flights ahead of Hajj & Eid

Additional Flights for Hajj

As the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia lifts all Hajj travel restrictions for the first time in three years, Emirates has deployed additional flights for pilgrims to embark on their journey to and from the Holy City of Makkah. Ten flights have been added to and from Jeddah. All flights will be operated on Boeing 777 aircraft dedicated for Hajj pilgrims until 7 July. The Hajj flights to Jeddah will run in parallel to Emirates’ existing schedule to the Kingdom and are open to travellers holding a valid Hajj visa and, if above the age of 12, have been vaccinated against COVID-19. Medina will also be served with daily flights during this time.

This year, the Kingdom’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah anticipates 2.6 million pilgrims, reaching pre-pandemic numbers and the additional flights aim to help seamlessly carry pilgrims. Emirates has already seen strong bookings for Hajj travel from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Thailand, Senegal, the Ivory Coast, Mauritius, and South Africa.

Increased Flights for Eid Al Adha

Gearing up for a busy travel period for Eid Al Adha, Emirates has deployed an additional 34 flights to popular destinations across the region. With an estimated 78,000 people from across the region expected to travel with Emirates during the Eid Al Adha six-day break, the additional flights will facilitate passengers traveling home to celebrate with their family and friends. Emirates to Ramp up flights ahead of Hajj & Eid

For passengers traveling to the Levant, Emirates has added ten flights to Amman from 21 to 30 June, and ten additional flights to Beirut from 20 to 29 June. Within the GCC, the airline has added five flights to Dammam from 21 to 25 June and nine flights to Kuwait from 22 June to 2 July.

Emirates has recorded a 20% increase in demand in comparison to 2022 with a large percentage of its customers heading to India, Pakistan, Thailand, Philippines, the UK, France and the US, as well as across the region to Lebanon, Jordan and Dubai.

Offering a Pilgrim-Centric Experience

To help create a smooth and peaceful travel experience, Emirates has established a dedicated team to support pilgrims on their once-in-a-lifetime Hajj experience. On the ground in Dubai, an airport team will manage check-in. Hajj passengers transiting through Dubai will be escorted from their arrival gate to the departure gate, with all arrival formalities processed by a dedicated Hajj team.

On board, Emirates provides a pilgrim-centric experience that upholds the values and traditions of the travelers’ faith. Extra provisions have been made to accommodate those performing ablutions and cleansing rituals, while unperfumed towels and additional blankets will be provided. Special PAs will advise passengers when they have entered Al Miqat zones (state of sanctity) and indicate the changing of Ihram robes. Emirates’ award-winning ice system will feature a Hajj video that covers safety, general formalities and information about performing the Hajj pilgrimage and the Holy Quran channel will offer additional religious content for travelers to reflect before arriving in Jeddah. Passengers may also check-in up to 5 litres of holy water (Zamzam), which will be placed in special areas in the cargo hold.

Celebrating the spirit of Eid Al Adha

Serving its cosmopolitan customer base, Emirates celebrates a wide range of multicultural occasions onboard. The special celebration of Eid Al Adha will see passengers enjoy the traditional treats of Eid from 28 to 30 June. On select outbound flights from Dubai and all flights across the Gulf and Levant, classic Eid dishes will be served across First, Business, Premium Economy and Economy Class, including regional favourites such as chicken moughalghal, beef sajiyeh, prawn morbian and lamb madfoon in First and Business Class, chicken zurbian and lamb chermoula in Premium Economy, and kebab khashkhash, prawn sayadieh, lamb tagine, Daoud basha and chicken hamsa in Economy.

Desserts will feature a tempting selection of Eid favourites including a honey and white chocolate cake in First Class, pistachio and chocolate namoura cake in Business Class, rehash and white chocolate mousse cake in Premium Economy and coffee cake with Arabica sauce in Economy. All passengers will also receive a bespoke giftbox Eid treat from Emirates, from a chocolate choux and a tahini financier, topped with hazelnut cream to pistachio muhallabia tart or traditional ashta sfouf.

A selection of Emirati pastries and Arabic coffee will also be served in the signature A380 Onboard Lounge.

With summer vacations fast approaching, you may be looking to experience a family holiday.

From thousands of channels of inflight entertainment via ice, onboard Wi-Fi, regional cuisine and a wealth of activity packs for children, Emirates Economy makes Economy Class feel like an upgrade.

So, whether you are reuniting with loved ones, exploring a new or revisiting a favourite destination or simply having an international escape, Emirates has shared some top tips to ensure holidaying with your young flyers is as smooth as possible.

When booking your flights:

Look to time your flights with your child’s daily routine – where possible, try and time your flight times to suit their daily routine. For instance:

DON’T opt for a late-night departure or overnight flight thinking your kids will sleep through. They may not with all the excitement and noise, and you’ll be doubly exhausted

DO try to plan a flight departure to fit in between mealtimes or naps as this can help reduce the chance of public tantrums

DO try to make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep for morning flights, to avoid sleep-deprived meltdowns occurring

Choose your seats wisely – if you can, always book your baby a bassinette or choose bulkhead seats (these have no seat in front of them so that no one can recline into your space, enabling your children to have more room to play)

DO consider the advantages of sitting closer to the bathrooms. This makes toilet trips with kids a lot more convenient and the back third of the plane tends to be less populated on flights that aren’t full

Select children’s meals – don’t forget to opt for children’s meals when booking your tickets.

Emirates offers both baby and children (between the ages of 2 and 12 years) meal options, including a range of organic Ella’s Kitchen baby meals. A selection of prepared baby meals are available on board as well as classic kids’ favourites

Transfers – Try to have your accommodation transfer arranged in advance, particularly if you require car seats. It will be a relief to avoid waiting in taxi queues and not needing to worry about the safety element at the end of a long trip

Before boarding:

Explain the security process – the security screening can be confusing for children, with having to load their special things onto the conveyor belt and be separated (albeit very briefly) from their parents to go through the scanner. Try to explain ahead of time what they should expect and offer plenty of praise on the other side for doing such a great job

Be buggy clever – if you want to take your pram through the airport consider investing in a folding variety that can be taken on board the plane as carry on, this will help at the other end when you need to be able to put your tired youngster straight into their pram

Go sugar-free with your children’s travel snacks – It is a good idea to always carry healthy, protein-filled snacks with you in case of unexpected delays, or where moving between time zones. Your little one’s body clock and appetite may be affected, and they may not be hungry when meals are served – avoiding a ‘hangry’ meltdown in the line at customs is in everyone’s interest!

DO encourage them to take little sips of water as often as possible, too as dehydration can exacerbate jetlag

DO carry fruit gums or other sweets as they are great for take-off and landing for older children, to help reduce the pressure on their ears

Allow your children to bring their own carry-on bag and couple of toys – This makes your child feel more grown up and adds to the excitement of the complete travel experience. It is a good idea to ensure these toys don’t contain small parts and are brightly coloured in case they are dropped or lost

Comfort is key – make sure your little ones are as comfortable as possible to minimise the risk of any mid-air tantrums, so planning the outfit they wear carefully and packing a mini travel pillow for them is a good place to start. It’s a good idea to have a spare change of clothes and a spare shirt for yourself in case of accidents or unexpected spills

Bonus tip: let them shop with you so they can pick one they’re most comfortable with

Board the plane first or last – whilst many airlines offer families priority boarding, some parents in fact prefer to board last to minimise the amount of time their baby/small child spends on the plane. Many parents want their small child to burn up as much energy as possible in the airport/airport lounge so that when they are strapped in their seat, they are ready to sleep. Alternatively, if you have multiple children or have lots of carry-on, boarding first and taking your time to settle into your seats can reduce stress of trying to sort through lots of bags and little ones with everyone watching on

Safety always – Airports and airlines have responded to the safety requirements of travelling post-pandemic incredibly effectively, however you may like to carry extra hand sanitiser (including child-friendly versions) with you as well. Afterall, as much as you ask your little ones to avoid touching surfaces unnecessarily, their curious hands will want to touch everything!

Whilst onboard

Inflight Entertainment – Allow your children to indulge in the in-flight entertainment. By giving your children license to watch more television/films than usual, it will seem like a treat and will give you time to relax and unwind too. For instance, with the Emirates ice entertainment system children can say hello to all their favourite characters on board – choosing from over 50 Disney classic films and from over 130 kids’ TV channels, plus music, games and even special headsets for them too – just ask our cabin crew

Toys – No matter how old your child is, you should never underestimate the power of a new toy. A new distraction presented at the right moment can work wonders. Young flyers can let their imaginations run wild on their Emirates flight with our new ‘Fly With Me Animals’ coloring book

Utilize the Cabin Crew – The Cabin Crew are on hand to make your flight as enjoyable as possible. They can help with warming bottles, keeping baby food refrigerated, offering kids activities, holding meals until a convenient time and maybe even sneaking a glass of wine to you after your child/ren finally falls asleep

After landing

Disembark last – Unless you have a connecting flight or are in a hurry, it’s a good idea to take your time disembarking. You won’t overlook a precious toy if you’re not rushed packing everything up, and both you and your children may be tired so not be operating at your best

Look for family lanes – Most airports will have family lanes for those traveling with children. Do seek them out, they can save you a very long wait.

Managing jet lag – This can be slow, frustrating, and exhausting, but adjusting to the local time zone can be helped by exposing your children to as much sunlight during the day as possible to help regulate melatonin production in the brain and cutting screen time during ‘sleep hours’. Try to avoid naptime too late in the day and ensure their mealtimes are as regular as possible

Finally, lower your expectations! – Flying is great fun, but it can be overwhelming for parents and confusing for young children. They may not respond well to the noise, crowds, the waiting or the rules. Try to explain as much as you can in advance about what to expect and be extra patient with them, whilst being kind to yourself. If they watched more TV than you’d usually like, be thankful for the quiet time. If they cleaned you out of snacks, be glad they’re not hungry. It can be tricky flying with children, but it can also be joyful and it’s always worth it when you get there.

Keeping with Dubai’s ‘nothing is impossible’ spirit, Emirates is soaring up and around the Burj Khalifa for another edition of its viral ad campaign, this time taking it one spectacular step further with the masterful addition of the iconic Expo 2020 Dubai A380. Emirates hit the global headlines and social media feeds of millions in August 2021 when it took its brand message to new heights atop the Burj Khalifa.

This time, the brave stuntwoman is standing at the pinnacle of the Burj Khalifa by Emaar once again, holding up message boards with an invitation to visit the world’s greatest show, Expo 2020 Dubai, on the iconic Emirates A380. She then gestures to her ‘friend’, the eye-catching Emirates A380 wearing the Expo 2020 Dubai livery, which gracefully soars in the background as she stands firmly on the spire of the world’s tallest building.

The ad also features dynamic aerial views of Dubai and its iconic skyline and culminates in a flypast over the impressive Al Wasl dome at the Expo 2020 Dubai site. Click here to watch the behind-the-scenes video and what went into making the ad.

Sir Tim Clark, President Emirates Airline said: “Now at the halfway mark of its six-month run, the excitement and momentum around Expo 2020 Dubai remain strong. Our latest campaign boldly carries the Expo message and invites people to come and experience what is truly the world’s greatest show.

There is nowhere else right now that offers the raft of attractions, top-class entertainment and music, riveting sports, vibrant country and themed pavilions, a thriving culinary scene and much more – all in one place. Dubai and the Expo are already top attractions and our aim is to give global travelers even more reasons to choose Emirates and Dubai for their upcoming winter and spring holidays.”

While the ad looked like it was shot effortlessly, the whole project involved in-depth planning and meticulous execution involving stakeholders across Dubai’s aviation ecosystem, with a strong focus on safety at every juncture when conducting the low flying maneuvers.

The carefully choreographed flypast involved the A380 flying at a low altitude of only 2,700 feet, the exact height of Burj Khalifa by Emaar. The aircraft also flew at a very low speed of 145 knots. To put that into perspective, the average cruising speed of an A380 is around 480 knots. The low speed ensured the aircraft could efficiently and continuously circle around the Burj Khalifa and achieve a tight radius without drifting away. In total, the Emirates A380 circled the Burj Khalifa 11 times to get the right selection of shots for the ad.

The aircraft also appeared as if it was flying very close to the stuntwoman as she was standing on the Burj, when in fact it was over half a mile away.

The new global multi-channel campaign will run in 12 languages, debuting across 19 countries covering TV, cinema, digital and social media platforms. The ad is part of a wider USD $20 million commitment Emirates has made to help create awareness, generate excitement and ultimately drive more visits to Dubai and Expo 2020 Dubai.

Since Dubai reopened for business and tourism in July 2020, the airline has run close to 15 major global and regional brand and tactical campaigns across 25 countries, starting with its ‘Dubai is Open’ campaign; its partnership with celebrity powerhouse Chris Hemsworth promoting Expo 2020 Dubai’s endless possibilities ahead of the event’s opening date; both its “Emirates crew on Burj Khalifa” ads and its latest winter campaign highlighting the plethora of activities Dubai has to offer for travelers seeking to escape the cold.

The airline has also promoted Expo 2020 Dubai through a number of global tactical campaigns, including complimentary day passes for every ticket booked, earning Skywards Miles for time spent in Dubai during the Expo period, early-bird discounts, family and SME offers, amongst other special promotions. Running until 31 March 2022, Expo 2020 Dubai brings the world together, hosting spectacular events that have encouraged repeat visitation, as it provides a platform for collaboration, showcasing human advances and the latest in technology, culture, art music, gastronomy, sports and much more, in addition to over 190 country pavilions to see and experience.

“Emirates SkyCargo remains committed to the rapid distribution of COVID-19 vaccines to vulnerable communities around the world. When we formulated our COVID-19 distribution strategy in 2020, Emirates SkyCargo prioritized the movement of COVID-19 vaccines through our Dubai hub to developing countries. I’m happy to announce that nearly two-thirds of the total vaccines we transported were headed to destinations in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. With our extensive reach across six continents, our wide-body capacity and expertise in cool chain logistics, Emirates SkyCargo will continue to be a reliable partner for the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines in the months to come,” said Nabil Sultan, Emirates Divisional Senior Vice President, and Cargo.

With the increasing roll-out of vaccination and booster campaigns across global markets, Emirates SkyCargo witnessed a steady increase in the demand for transportation of COVID-19 vaccines in the second half of 2021. In October and November 2021 alone, Emirates SkyCargo moved more than 200 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, almost one-third of the total COVID-19 vaccines transported by the carrier since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Emirates SkyCargo transports 600 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

Emirates SkyCargo has been a key global player in the air distribution of COVID-19 vaccines and other relief materials and essential commodities during the COVID-19 pandemic. The air cargo carrier offers sophisticated cool chain solutions for pharmaceutical cargo with Emirates Pharma- a specialized three-tiered air transportation product designed for temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals and backed by Emirates’ state of the art GDP-certified pharma infrastructure at its cargo hub in Dubai. In June 2021, Emirates SkyCargo expanded its pharma cool chain infrastructure at Dubai International Airport, allowing it to store an additional estimated 60-90 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines.
